A Trial Of Archery Quest Guide

Quick Links

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a glorious return to the world of the Arisen. A sprawling open world mixes with top tier gameplay to bring gamers the sequel to Dragon’s Dogma that they desired. Like its predecessor, Dragon’s Dogma is filled with quests and exploration, all with little guidance from the game itself.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is full of complex systems. This list breaks down some key information you’ll need to know when starting up the game.

A Trial of Archery, the second quest in Glyndwr’s quest arc, sees the Arisen guiding Glyndwr in the ways of archery and rewards the player with one of their first Portcrystals. Engaging in this quest line in itself, however, requires conversing with — and trading a bow to — Glyndwr at the right moment.

Finding Glyndwr & Starting The Quest

Dragon's Dogma 2 Glyndwr By The Weapon Shop

Shortly after arriving in Vernworth, the Arisen will be able to navigate a bustling city filled with numerous shops and other places of interest. Glyndwr, the Elf struggling to learn the ways of Elven bows, can be found waiting in front of the weapon shop. The Arisen should already be acquainted with Glyndwr after completing the previous quest, Gift of the Bow, earlier.

After clearing Gift of the Bow, return to Vernworth and wait a full day. If the Arisen’s party needs healing, sleep at an inn for a day. If not, simply pass the time at the local pub until a full day has passed. Return to the weapon shop to find Glyndwr. He will invite the Arisen to his Elven hometown of Sacred Arbor to watch him compete in the trial of archery.

Travel To Sacred Arbor

Dragon's Dogma 2 Sacred Arbor Location

By this point in the game, the Arisen has likely not made it too far outside Vernworth. They have perhaps reached the Trevo Mine, which is to the northwest of the city, and they would have accompanied Glyndwr to the training grounds. After initiating A Trial of Archery, Glyndwr will lead the Arisen to his hometown. The journey to Sacred Arbor is relatively long, but Glyndwr will accompany you the entire way.

After clearing a few enemies on the journey, the party will arrive at Sacred Arbor. Feel free to poke around at the various shops, as Glyndwr will translate everything for the Arisen (assuming they do not speak the Elven tongue).

There are some solid mage or archer weapons at the shop, and the inn is also available.

When ready, follow Glyndwr to the chamber where he will enter the trial.

Rescue Glyndwr’s Sister

Dragon's Dogma 2 Arisen Carrying Doireann

Much to Glyndwr’s horror, the trial has been put on hold while the Elves discuss how to save his sister, Doireann, who was abducted by a giant ogre. While the participants of the trial are prohibited from joining the rescue effort, Glyndwr refuses those orders and asks for the Arisen’s help in saving his sister. Follow him to the east to make it to the ancestral chamber.

Be sure to wait for Glyndwr before entering the chamber. If the Arisen enters before Glyndwr arrives, the quest will not trigger. Getting there before Glyndwr does allow the Arisen freedom to clear and loot the chamber before searching for the ogre, but if efficiency is required, arrive at the same time as Glyndwr.

A group of Elves will retreat through the entrance as the party arrives. They deduce a plan to find the ogre and rescue Doireann. Glyndwr will take a shot at the ogre’s arm, forcing it to drop Doireann. The Arisen’s task is to rush in and rescue Doireann, retreating to the entrance of the ancestral chamber.

  • There is no need to fight this behemoth; simply pick up the fallen Elf and sprint out of the chamber.
  • The Arisen can battle the ogre, but Doireann can be killed in the process.

Continue fleeing in the designated direction, and after a certain point, Doireann will be deemed rescued. It is possible that the party defeats the ogre and keeps Doireann safe, but the safest bet is to pick her up and go.

You can always head back in and kill the ogre afterward.

Quest Rewards

Portcrystal, Reppeller Bow, And More

The Player Using A Placed Portcrystal

By now, many of the Elves have shifted their perspective on the Arisen. Glyndwr hopes this series of events will help build a bridge between the Elves and humankind. Either way, the Arisen will receive a handful of gold and experience for their troubles, as well as a Repeller Bow. More importantly, a Portcrystal will be given to the Arisen, which allows them to fast travel to wherever they decide to plant the mobile device. Do not fret, however; the Portcrystal can be picked up again and placed elsewhere.

This is easily one of the best quest rewards the Arisen has received to this point in the game (assuming players helped Glyndwr early enough), so completing this series of quests provides a huge boon.

Archer Maister Scroll Reward

While not part of this quest, this reward can only be accessed after completing A Trial of Archery. After quest completion, wait one full day (rest at a nearby bench several times, or simply recharge at the Sacred Arbor Inn). Then, return to Taliesin (Glyndwy’s father), who is actually the Archer Maister in the game. Speak with him, and he will gift the Hunter’s Secret scroll. While the Arisen has the Archer Vocation active, they can use the Scroll to learn ‘Heavenly Shot,’ the strongest Archer Weapon Skill in the game.
